Tools & Tips
To view a sample page wiki page click HERE BasicsAdding pages: YOU MUST REGISTER TO EDIT OR ADD PAGES. To do so click "Log In" at the top left of this page. When you click on a Wiki space (Business and Economy, Energy and Environment, etc) you will find a Homepage built by us that can only be edited by us (please feel free to comment at the bottom of our page so that we might improve it). Under the Homepage this Wiki belongs to you... even newly registered users can edit and add a page. Simply click "add" and select "wiki page." (Coming soon: Templates for all sorts of cool pages.) There are certain features that can only be activated by privileged users, who have earned our trust to maintain We the Wiki rules of civility and factual accuracy. Pages you can't edit: If you come to a page you can't edit (Homepages and basic instruction pages) please do comment at the bottom of the page to help us improve our content. ResourcesFind an exhaustive list of notations to use to format your pages in Wiki Markup edit mode HERE: http://wiki.tothevillagesquare.org/renderer/notationhelp.action Miscellaneous DirectionsAdd space between an image and text: Under "Wiki Markup" tab, insert (without quotations) "hspace=12," or "vspace=12," depending on whether you need to create either horizontal or vertical space around the image. Increasing the number will result in larger space, decreasing it in smaller space. So, for example, if you look under the "Wiki Markup" tab on this page, the line that creates space around the image on the image looks like this: !tools-and-tips-gray-background.png|hspace=12, align=left! What you can edit, what you can't: Space homepages can only be edited by Village Square staff members. Feel free to make any comments about the content of homepages in the comment thread on the page. Pages with directions are also protected. Otherwise, add pages, edit pages, go wild. Tool instructions:Tooltips: Add a notation to a text excerpt by using this code: {tooltip:tip=put text here that you want in the pop-up box}
Text in the body of the article you want the tooltip to refer to
{tooltip}
Creating links within a We the Wiki space: Creating links are super-easy when linking to another page within the same general topic space (for example, any page within Energy & Environment space can be linked to within that same space using these directions... you must be in Wiki Markup rather than Rich Text to use this tool): [EXACT title of the page you want to link to] Creating a page suggestion link: If a page topic doesn't exist yet, but you'd like to see it added, you can use the same bracket tool except that without the page currently existing, it will create a red hyperlink followed by a plus sign, or a page suggestion link. Then by simply clicking on the hyperlink, you or another user will create the page. So if you insert this: [Military tax break]
where "Military tax break" code does not exist, it will result in a link that looks like this--> Then your or another user can click on the link to create the page "Military tax break." Footnotes: Footnotes are highly encouraged and easy to do. Add the following code: {footnote}
Here you add the text of your footnote, including the link to your source where applicable, something like this:
Source Name (hyperlinked to source, just find the amazon page if it's a book), Source author
{footnote}
Here's what it looks like (you can go to Wiki Markup tab to see the notations, notice how the footnote content automatically is placed at the bottom of the page, below): Meet our coolest tools (all coming soon):
